Department of Posts and UNICEF issue commemorative postage stamp on UNICEF@75 with India

The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, and UNICEF today issued a commemorative postage stamp marking 75 years of UNICEF’s partnership with India to realize the rights of children in India.

The special postage stamp valued at Rs 10 creatively represents a

mother and a child to symbolize UNICEF’s mandate to protect and promote every child’s right to survive, thrive, and reach their full potential, especially the most vulnerable. A mandate that resulted in landmark progress in India led by the Government of India and supported by UNICEF.

Since 1949, UNICEF has collaborated with and supported the Government of India and State Governments to facilitate that every child has the best start and opportunities in life. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the global Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, UNICEF’s priorities align with and contribute to national social development goals.

Colonel Akhilesh Pandey, Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle, Department of Posts in his address lauded the exemplary journey of UNICEF from 1949 till date and works of UNICEF in promoting and supporting children and young people at risk, reaching every child in need and protecting children’s rights to survive, thrive and reach their full potential. He concludes that Department of Posts is proud to issue a Commemorative Postage Stamp and honor UNICEF’s crucial role in championing the rights and well-being of children and 75 years of partnership with India and shared vision, ‘For Every Right for Every Child.’

Addressing the gathering, Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator for India, said, “Today, the release of the UNICEF@75 Commemorative Postage Stamp is a celebration of collaboration, shared values, and a commitment to the rights and futures of children—the very essence of progress. The United Nations family, including UNICEF, stands steadfast in partnership with India to ensure that every child and every young person can realize their full potential. Together, we can create a future where no one is left behind.”

“This is a significant moment for the partnership between India and UNICEF.  For 75 years, we have worked together to reach every child – wherever they live, whatever their background – with quality services and systems enabling improved health, learning and opportunity.  UNICEF is proud to mark that this is the fifth commemorative postage stamp being released in partnership with the Ministry of Communications, having marked several over the past 64 years,” said Cynthia McCaffrey, Representative UNICEF India.

“The stamp is a symbolic milestone for children in India. In the past decades of cooperation, we have seen that investing in children reaps enormous dividends as demonstrated in India. Whether it is reduction of under-5 child mortality, increase in full immunization and school enrollment rates, safe sanitation and clean water, the well-being of India’s children is improving significantly.  UNICEF is proud to partner with the Government of India for more than 75 years, working together, along with the private sector, civil society, youth and children themselves to strengthen systems and services that improve the advance the rights of every child,” she added.

Over the past decades, recognizing the partnership and support of UNICEF in India, the Government of India released four commemorative postage stamps on the 25th and 40th anniversary of UNICEF in India and to commemorate 30 years of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, in 2019.
