2020 started with a virus outbreak spreading rapidly in India from China or the famous “corona virus”, which has now been declared as a worldwide pandemic and is still not in our control. Next on 29th of April 2020, Bollywood industry lost one of its very precious gems, actor Irrfan Khan and then on just the next day (30th April 2020). India woke up to another shocking news, the death news of the famous veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, and not only that, we also lost the man behind some of our beautiful childhood stories like “Finding Nemo” and “Toy Story”, Rob Gibbs on April 24 2020. Oh wait, you thought this was the end? Sadly no. Even Indian football legend and former India football captain Chuni Goswami passed away on the afternoon of 30 April 2020 in Kolkata.
Rishi Kapoor is such an actor whom almost three generations have watched and was a true veteran actor. Rishi Kapoor was born on 4 September 1952 in Bombay, India. He made his debut with the film “Mera Naam Joker”, a Raj Kapoor film of 1970. And worked as a director for the first time in 1999 for the film “Aa Ab Laut Chalein”. He was married to Neetu Singh and has two children, Ranbir Kapoor (who is also a famous actor of the B-town) and Riddhima Kapoor Sahani. His last acted film was “The Body”. Some of the awards received by him are:
1970 – Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards: Special Award, and National Film Award for Mera Naam Joker
1974 – Filmfare Award for Best Actor for Bobby
2008 – Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award
2009 – Honoured by Russian Government for contribution to cinema
2010 – Apsara Film & Television Producers Guild Awards: Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Love Aaj Kal
2011 – Zee Cine Awards: Best Lifetime Jodi along with Neetu Singh
2011 – Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for Do Dooni Chaar
2013 – The Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA), Best Actor in a Negative Role for Agneepath
2017 – Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Kapoor & Sons
2017 – Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Male for Kapoor & Sons
2017 – Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role for Kapoor & Sons
Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2018 and on 30th April 2020 he was admitted in Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, where he took his last breath.
Chuni Goswami was his nickname, Subimal Goswami , the football legend from Bengal is no more between us. Not only football, he was also a great cricketer. He was born on 19 January 1938, and has a special dignity for playing for one single club “Mohunbagan” throughout his life even after receiving many invitations fro other club. After that he has also played internationally for India. Some major awards received by him are:
• 1962 Best Striker of Asia Award
• 1963 Arjuna award
• 1983 Padma Shri award
• 2005 Mohun Bagan Ratna
He was suffering from some underlying disease with nerve problems, prostate and sugar. According to his family, he was admitted in a hospital of Kolkata on 29th of April 2020 and faced a cardiac attack on 5pm, 30 April 2020 which was the cause of his death.
James Robert Gibbs was a storyboard artist, writer and director for Disney and Pixar, born on October 17 1964 in California, US. Some of his famous works are: Pocahontas (1955), Fantasia 2000, Toy story 2, Finding Nemo, Atlantis: The lost empire (2001), WALL∙E (2008). He has worked as a director for various projects including Tokyo Mater, Air Mater, as well as episodes of Mater’s Tall Tales and Disney’s upcoming Monsters At Work series, which he was working on when he passed away. He also worked on the art for Monsters University, Inside Out, The Incredibles 2. He was also about to make his feature directing debut on the Movie Brats Pictures’ blockbuster animated film Hump. His cause of death is still unknown, he was 55 when he passed away.
These legends will no longer be physically present within us but they have astonished us with their works, leaving behind a legacy of contribution in their own particular fields and will be evergreen among us as their works are never forgetful.
