Kota institutes providing counseling to students and parents

The Kota district administration is taking a step to shun the suicides happening among JEE and AIPMT aspirants. Kota had recorded 19 suicides by students in the year of 2015. The administration is planning to implement the state guidelines of mandatory counseling for students taking admission to these coaching centers.

It is to aware the students about the challenges while
preparing for the exams and other career options instead of IITs and AIPMTs as per their interest after the rise of suicide cases among students due to stress.
The mandatory counseling will start for those seeking admission to appear in examination from 2017. The data says that every year 60,000 students from all over the country come to take coaching in Kota but the number of seats for the IITians are just 9,000 against 13 lakh aspirants.

According to district collector of Kota, Ravi Kumar, mandatory counseling is a part of the guidelines framed to de-stress the students and later the chief secretary C S Rajan recommended the same decision. The coaching institutions will organize these counseling sessions. It will not be only for the students but the parents as well as local guardians will also have to attend the sessions in person or in a group.

The counselors have given the guidelines to inform the students about the limited seats and total number of aspirants appearing for the exams to make them understand the competition one has to face. It will also reveal about the pressure one has to undergo in the preparation and will try to give the possible options other than these fields.

The aptitude test has also been recommended for the students so that they can realize if their decision for engineering is correct or not. But the administration has also made it clear that they can only aware the youth and the final decision will be in the hands of students and their parents.

Nitesh Sharma, a marketing manager of a private coaching organization informed that coaching institutes have also started appointing the counselors and besides this, they are holding seminars and motivational sessions for the students.
