She isn’t your conventional Bollywood actress but that’s what makes her so very different and unique!
The 5 feet 7 inches tall Anisha Varma came into the limelight as Asia’s first internet jockey with Sifymax and graduated to music videos, print-TV commercials, anchoring/ VJ-ing before becoming a full-fledged actress.
Having been seen in popular intense films
such as ‘Hate Story’ and niche urban youth-centric comedies such as ‘Love Possible’, Anisha is open to portraying an entire gamut of emotions from being a deeply manipulative urban girl to a pure fun film as a comedienne to a simple romantic girl of today.
Very soon, Anisha will be seen in cameos in ‘Shaitaan’ (Colors), ‘Savdhaan India’ (Life OK), 'Suite life of Karan and Kabir' (Disney) and ‘Makeover show with Trinny and Sussanah’ to be aired in September on TLC.
Incidentally, the multi-facetted Anisha has a strong sense of fashion ‘n’ styling, which she often deploys in designing the look of her character. Her dialogue delivery is impeccable as she is a linguist fluent in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi and Bengali.
Punjabi girl Anisha’s dark brown intense eyes hide a deep understanding of the film industry and the business of cinema gathered over her childhood into her formative years.
Visitors to her house included some of the leading filmmakers such as the late K. Pappu, Harmesh Malhotra, Vimal Kumar, Deepak Bahry, Jhamu Sugandh and Ratan Mohan amongst others.
Extremely photogenic, Anisha has attracted praise from ace photographers such as Jitu Savlani who found her to be amazingly expressive.
Talking about her work, Anisha says, “I love the way Ranbir Kapoor has portrayed strong urban characters and climbed his way to peaks of popularity. He inspires me to search and seek such strong urban characters in Indian films. I’m happy that Indian and international cinema today offers a host of opportunities to unconventional actresses, who want to portray strong characters. Punjabi actors have always being associated with the film industry but their full potential hasn’t been tapped and there is scope for more. I, for one, would like to portray a true-blood Punjabi chatterbox character with panache and rustic style.”
Anisha may be attuned to multiple media platforms including films and television but she is quite focussed on portraying interesting characters.
Her talent for acting was honed in intense training at Dr. Vikramaditya Narayan Theatre while the accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer’s western dancing skills were sharpened at Shiamak Davar’s Dance Institute and Ashley Lobo Dance School. Swimming, Horse riding, Car driving, Bike Riding, Mountaineering, Trekking and Adventure Sports like Scuba Diving, River Rafting, Bungee Jumping etc.
Anisha started her career as an anchor with Sifymax (as India’s first net jockey) and Zee/ Zee Music. She went on to do more music videos ‘Hip Hop’ and ‘Kashmiri’.
She walked the ramp for Roopa Vora jewellery, Rocky S,Superhit Magazine Awards(Hyderbad) and Shopper’s Stop. She did print shoots for Bajaj Electricals, Pidilite and saree/ suit brands.
She did TVCs for Big Bazaar, McDonald’s McFlurry and Educom smart class. She went on to play the lead in a film directed by Praful (‘Runway’).
She did events such as Imran Khan Film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ Promotion on Zee Cinema; Retreat (Diu),Hero Honda, World’s Gaming Champion and anchored lots of parties/weddings/anniversaries n showroom openings.
